What happens in classrooms is not the same as what happens at UPS: it is not like transferring an unexamined parcel of information from one person to another. It must include, as all reputable teachers know, instructing students in academic discipline and personal responsibility.#education #teaching #goodteachers #bestpratices #educators #intelligence #administration #university #administrators #classrooms #responsibility

Lisa Rouff starts 2024 with some straight talk about starting the college process when students are still in middle school and what can happen when getting a 12- or 13-year-old to commit to a passion: "To me, getting your kid into an Ivy plus school, and getting your kid to a place where they can be happily, and authentically passionate about any number of things, are very different things."Everyone who is or knows a parent fretting about college before their children are out of middle school needs to read this:https://lnkd.in/gHaqmwfC

Waiting to write your essays until senior year starts will hurt your admissions outcomes. There’s no doubt about that. You don’t work your best under the wire. But I’m even more concerned about how it will tarnish your kid's last year at home.Imagine September:A mountainous courseload That Service Learning Project and Extended EssayVolunteer hoursActivitiesLeadership roles in the activitiesPart-time jobsAnd, of course, all the stuff that comes with the last dance of high school. Pageantry, pomp, and more can’t-miss must-see moments than that last season of Friends in the 90s. Do you really want to add writing your Common App Essay, Additional Info Note(s), and (an ever-increasing number of) college-specific supplemental essays?Start now. It’ll protect your peace, manage stress, and give your kid a much better shot at getting in. Be in control of the admissions process; don’t let it control you.
