During the pandemic, #telehealth providers enjoyed relaxed rules which led to increased controlled substance prescribing. Many #pharmacies have become a target of government investigations (DEA) due to increased dispensing of controlled substances for scripts coming from telehealth providers with questionable or improper online prescribing. During the pandemic, 40% of all Adderall medications were prescribed via telehealth versus 2% during the pre-pandemic times. The focus of this article is to remind, if you are working with telehealth companies that prescribe ADHD controlled medications, to pay increased attention to their prescribing practices and to inquire how a telehealth company establishes provider-patient relationship.#pharmacy #pharmacists #legaladvice #mentalhealth

In the quiet halls of Mitchell High School in Colorado Springs, a 15-year-old student overdosed. Alone and without access to Narcan, the outcome was tragic. This heart-wrenching incident is a stark reminder of the critical need for opioid intervention in our schools. Our recent collaboration with Rae Ellen Bichell and KFF Health News delved into the realities of Narcan’s impact in schools. And the resulting story echoed across 47 news outlets globally - including this feature on US News.https://lnkd.in/gFC6Q-yUKey Takeaways:Lifesaving Impact: Narcan, the rapid-response medication capable of reversing opioid overdoses, can be the crucial difference between tragedy and a second chance at life. Our investigation reveals real instances where swift administration saved lives, emphasizing the urgency of proactive measures in schools.Stigma Challenges: Decisions around Narcan are clouded by the fear of being labeled a “bad school” or tacitly endorsing drug-related issues. This article courageously confronts these challenges, advocating for a compassionate and informed approach. Global Relevance: The story’s resonance extends far beyond our local boundaries, underscoring the urgency of addressing opioid-related concerns in educational settings. Despite stigma and hesitancy, schools must be equipped with the tools necessary to combat the opioid crisis and ensure a safer environment for students worldwide. We’re incredibly proud of the dedicated team that brought this narrative to light, showcasing the human side of this crisis through interviews and reporting in both English and Spanish.Rae Ellen Bichell,Kytja Weir, Annie Coghill, Katelyn AberleThese are not just stories; they are conversations that demand attention. Here is a great position in the Albany area.First Episode Psychosis Team in Albany, GA is now hiring its Team Lead position! Evolve is the name of Southwest Georgia’s Coordinated Specialty Care model for first episode psychosis. Evolve provides teenagers and young adults with psychosis access to coordinated specialty care . Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) is an evidence-based approach to providing team-based, integrated treatment to young people in the early stages of severe mental illness, with the goal of reducing disability and promoting long-term recovery. Recognizing that many individuals with conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder experience the first symptoms of illness during adolescence and young adulthood; and that many encounter long delays before receiving effective, evidence-based treatment, Evolve is an ambitious effort to address the needs of young people and their families at a critical point in their lives. The goals of LIGHT-ETP include early detection of psychosis; rapid access to coordinated, team-based, specialty care; recovery-focused interventions; and youth- and young-adult-friendly services that emphasize engagement, person-centered planning, shared decision making, assertive outreach, and family involvement. The services offered by these multi-disciplinary teams include psychotherapy, case management, supported education and employment, peer support, family support and education, medication management, and primary care coordination. The intended outcomes: a reduction in the duration of untreated symptoms and illness; reduction in unnecessary hospitalizations; and improved clinical, social, and academic/occupational functioning. Mobile Crisis services are requested numerous times a day at Broward County schools Grades K - 12. I’m not sure anyone really understands that children with unaddressed mental health issues grow into adults eventually. As a member of the Mobile Crisis Response Team, I have had to send children as small as 6 years old to the hospital for a higher level of care to be stabilized because they think about suicide and are at risk. Sometimes children hear voices as well and sometimes those voices tell them to hurt themselves or others. The hospital keeps these at risk children maybe 3 days and then sends them home to families and schools that have almost no access to services. As the news continues to reveal details about the mass shooting in Maine, newscasters, people and politicians alike are asking why with all the warnings that were given was this man not prevented from purchasing a gun? Why was he allowed to walk free? Why didn’t the police complete the welfare check? Even if the police had spoken to the gunman it is likely that nothing would have evidenced itself to meet the criteria required to involuntarily hospitalize him. Mentally ill people have an uncanny ability to pull it together when they know they are being assessed. There are almost no exhisting long term services for mentally ill people who need either voluntary or involuntary help. Children with mental health issues become adults with mental health issues. If we are not going to change gun laws then we better start coming up with answers, money and resources for the long term care needed for at risk children in our communities.

Addiction is a vital field to learn about, regardless of career plans or setting for nurses, as they are likely to come across it in various healthcare environments such as hospitals or outpatient clinics.GW's primary aim is to ensure that graduating students become part of the solution rather than the problem, actively contributing to addressing addiction issues in their practice.Learn more in this new episode of 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘐𝘴 𝘎𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘖𝘭𝘥: 𝘔𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘛𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘈𝘯 𝘈𝘨𝘦-𝘍𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘭𝘺 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥▶️ Nurse Practitioner School: What Do Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners Do? https://brnw.ch/21wDHG9

I spoke to 6PR Perth’s Christina Morrissey this week about the unacceptably long wait times families are *still* experiencing to see paediatricians and other child development services in Western Australia. The lack of paediatrician availability is only one part of the story - we need integrated care that puts children and their health, educational and emotional needs at the centre. What do I think would help?💵 An immediate and substantial investment in our Child Development Services to address unacceptable waiting times💵 A commitment by the WA Labor government to include a substantial increase in funding for our schools and health system in the 2024/25 budget👍Better integrated care models using allied health practitioners, GPs and peer navigators 🤝 Better collaboration between the WA Departments of Education and Health to support the WHOLE child and their family ⬆️ A substantial increase to funding for primary schools ⬇️ Reduced class sizes overall, with students on IEPs (or with imputed disabilty) counted as the equivalent of 2-3 students ⬆️ More school psychologists ⬆️ More EAs and in-classroom support for teachers and students📒 A commitment by the Department of Education to a whole-school Science of Reading approach with high quality Tier 1 classroom instruction and multi-tiered interventions funded for ALL students who need Tier 2 or Tier 3 support.📒Students with a family history (or suspected family history) of dyslexia to be offered early screening and surveillance. Let's abandon the "wait to fail" approach or referral to 2-3 year long wait lists.♾️More school-based support for students with ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, developmental coordination disorder, anxiety, developmental language disorder and autism.🤝 Adoption of Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (or similar) for supporting students and enshrining the fundamental belief that "Kids do well if they can".What would you add???Listen here: https://lnkd.in/gQqjvBkY
