#FreeDeliveryContent >>> #delivery & #transformation folks I've built up a 📖 library of tech delivery assets over the last 25+ years, some basic admin ✏templates, some more complex templates like SoWs, timing plans, roadmaps, strategy docs etc. 📝 I'm going to start sharing templates I think others may find useful, starting with a 'Billy basic' month to a page calendar template (Google Sheets / Excel doc) Monday - Sunday template, as Mon-Sun cals seem harder to find than Sun-Sat versions 🗨 Comment 'Yes please' or click on the link in the comments & it's yours (When accessing simply make a copy & download in Excel or save in your GDrive)#PayItForward #agile #projectmanagement #sharingiscaring

I like the recognition that the way we are working isn't working. People don't take the time to properly prepare for discussions and creating the space in the meeting to focus on the preparation is a GREAT idea. Of course, we don't have all the information about the memo so we may be missing if there are visuals included to help for understanding and processing. Perhaps they use tables, charts, frameworks, and graphics too.The format is a question of what works for the team involved and the context of the content. I would add to this, if they don't already do so, not just an open discussion but perhaps a few clear questions to direct people's thoughts and attention to the conversation. and even collect on a miro board to facilitate the group discussion.Depending on the topic, one-word answers are a good way to hear the overall tone and positioning, scaled ratings, and other ways to pull out the most important and impactful items for discussion. We are in a focus crisis and new ways of working often break old patterns. That is bold leadership.

That's it. I'm done. I am breaking up with MS Excel. Yes, I said it. I am a recovering operations manager in the business services space that loved to use Excel to manage lists, and priorities, and idea generation. But now, I have seen the ways of Visual boards. Miro is my new favorite tool.It took moving into the Software Development space for me to see the potential not only for nifty Agile uses - but as well - other business activities. When I got my first weird look when I drafted an excel spreadsheet based list for managing tasks on an ad hoc initiative, I realized I was living in a different operating culture and I needed to embrace some change.Don't get me wrong, Excel has some great uses for data management and analysis, but it is time to move on in terms of other uses. Why hasn't the business world made the same breakup and moved to tools like Miro and Trello? Meet your new organization tool mate. They are creative, organized and engaging. I think you'll like them and won't go back to your old love.

Spicy take: I've literally never found a tool marketed for product people that is worth using - let alone paying for - when compared to simple docs and sheets.Product people have to - arguably without exception - adapt to the constantly changing needs of users and the businesses who employ them. Relying on a tool that is "tailored to the PM workflow" or whatever definitionally makes assumptions on what your workflow is, or way of prioritizing is, and as soon as that changes, the tool falls down. It becomes a shell of the value it used to provide, a graveyard to ideas that will either (1) never become reality or (2) be rewritten time and time again in docs or sheets.I'm not just saying this - I've seen this at basically every company I've worked for, with basically every tool that is not a Google/Microsoft product, and perhaps the project tracker in use (which is usually just the one that was picked years ago by some engineering leader). We even tried to ship a documentation product for design & product teams at Abstract, and it had a modestly successful beta period –but arguably our biggest challenge was convincing teams to move even a fraction of their work away from those tools. Why does this seem to happen? Three reasons, imo:1) People gravitate to the easiest and most ubiquitous way of creating things - and usually that's the writing tool du jour at your company (again, probably Google Docs, MS Word, Notion, etc.). If everyone's already in the tool, just go with it.2) Change sucks. It's incredibly difficult to push people to use more tools *at all*, let alone ones that change their workflow.3) The best PMs especially are excellent writers & storytellers, so the most compelling tools to convey ideas are what those tools are best for: clear, simple prose alongside clear, simple sheets of data. Tools are a shiny distraction for PMs, even when they claim to be "for us." Just use what you've got, focus on the writing, and you'll be surprised at how effective those things are.#product #pm #tools #docs

was created to help people to use the Google Workspace better. We have created this template last year that has already helped 200+ entrepreneurs and agencies. We use it internally to track non-dev projects. We wanted to share it with anyone who wants to:- limit work in progress (WIP), preventing overload and ensuring focus.- identify bottlenecks, allowing for quick resolution and smoother workflows.- promote continuous improvement by providing visibility into process inefficiencies. This template simplifies workflow management and keeps all the information on Google sheets in a Kanban board.Interested in it? If you don't write your decisions down, you can't learn from them and from any outcomes that flow from them. 🎓 It's interesting that at school, we have a lot of rigor around written work. Homework gets feedback, tests get graded. But when we get into business, everything gets a lot looser. The companies that learn from what they're doing are going to be much better positioned for growth. 💡Writing down what you decide can be work, but it doesn't take that much effort if you're using the right set of tools, especially once you start to reap the rewards of learning from your outcomes (good and bad).
