Not all hospitals are trauma centers, and not every emergency department can handle every emergency. A trauma center is not an emergency department. A trauma center is a state-accredited hospital facility capable of highly specialized treatment for the most critical injuries. In Central Florida, this care can only be received at Orlando Regional Medical Center.
Our Level One Trauma Center features a multidisciplinary team of board certified doctors, nurses and technicians ready to treat the most severely injured patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Comprehensive trauma care services include dedicated, state-of-the-art trauma resuscitation rooms, operating rooms, radiology, and a 256-Slice CT scanner.
Level One Trauma Care for Children
Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies is home to Bert Martin Champions for Children Emergency Department, the first of its kind in Central Florida. The 33-bed emergency care unit includes a large, four-bed resuscitation and trauma bay.
As Central Florida’s only Level One Trauma Center, it serves an average of 700 pediatric trauma patients per year from more than 16 counties in Central Florida. Patients are provided with the unmatched expertise of our medical teams, which include board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physicians, board-certified pediatric surgeons and board-certified emergency medicine physicians as well as specialty trained and board-certified pediatric subspecialists. Trauma Resuscitation Bay
Our Level One Trauma Center contains six Trauma Resuscitation Bays, where the most severely injured people from around Central Florida are brought for rapid diagnosis and immediate treatment for life-threatening injuries.
The Trauma Resuscitation Bay is fully equipped to conduct diagnostics, resuscitation, and surgery. Resources such as portable X-ray machines and ultrasound equipment, a blood bank with universal-type blood and controlled temperature to prevent shock, all ensure that the Trauma Resuscitation Bay is able to handle even the most complex situations at any moment.
Trauma Step-Down Unit
ORMC’s Critical Care Unit provides an environment of healing and caring to meet the special needs of our critically ill patients and their families. This specialized unit cares for patients who have recently undergone major surgery, are suffering from a major illness, or who are generally in need of advanced monitoring and intensive treatment but do not require the intensive care unit. Our Critical Care Unit is staffed with highly trained nurses, specialized physicians, rehabilitative services, respiratory therapy, and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Our team of professionals has received specialized training to provide quality healthcare to each patient.
Intensive Care Unit
When you or a family member are critically ill and need a high level of care, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Orlando Health facilities can provide the necessary comprehensive and specialized treatment that is often required of critically ill patients. Orlando Health offers intensive care services in medicine, general surgery, cardiology, neurosurgery, coronary, and burn trauma. Our nurses, who have special training in caring for critical patients, monitor patients closely for any changes in their condition. Our ICU is complete with appropriate equipment, including hemodynamic, respiratory and cardiac monitoring, telemetry and ventilators.
Rehabilitation Services
Orlando Health offers comprehensive rehabilitation services. Our rehabilitation team works together to help each patient restore function and improve quality of life.
We offer inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services and specialized rehabilitation programs for brain injuries, pulmonary/cardiovascular recovery, spinal cord injuries, and general/multisystem rehabilitation. Our patients receive compassionate, comprehensive, and innovative rehabilitation through an interdisciplinary team that achieves patient and physician goals.
