Bedford cortisone Injections: What to expect?
Soft tissue or joint injections are administered to painful joints affected by wear and tear or osteoarthritis. They are also used for tendon issues such as tendonitis or tendonopathy.
At the Towcester clinic we offer injections inolving corticosteroids, hyaluronic acid and more. Steroiud injections are great at treating any condition thath as an inflammatory component to the pain. For example osteoarthritis, tendinopathy, bursitis, damage to carilage or labrum synovitis and many more painful conditions.
The injections are performed using Ultrasound for guidance and precision, by using this image guidance for accuracy and safety, the therapist can be confident the injectate is being delivered to the desired location.
Local anaesthetic is used on the injection point to make the procedure as comfortable as possible for you, some patients experience feelings of pressure as the fluid is injected however most patients are often surprised at how quick and comfortable the process is.
The injection is a long acting steroid which may take up to 2 weeks to start working. It is often common to not feel a huge benefit for the first day or two and some people may feel worse temporarily, but this should begin to settle within a week.
The procedure can provide you with a dramatic decrease in your symptoms, often the steroid injections are curative, however occasionally the effects are short term. It is safe to repeat the procedure if this happens.
Once the steroid starts taking effect, it can ease your symptoms for anywhere from two months to a year or longer depending on you as an individual. If you do feel the effects wearing off sooner than you would have liked, please don’t worry, get in touch with our team, there is often so much more we can do to help.
Bedford Acupuncture: What to expect?
Your therapist will normally use between 2-16 needles which can stay in for up to twenty-five minutes. During the treatment your therapist may stimulate the needles by gently moving them. Acupuncture and dry needling should not be painful because the needles are fine and inserted quickly throughthe skin. However, some people will experience a pin-prick sensation. Once the needles are in place you may feel a mild ache, numbness, or heavy sensation around the needle. This should not be unpleasant. This is a sign that endorphins and other relieving chemicals are being released.
Acupuncture is effective in the treatment of:
- Migraines, neck disorders, tension typeheadaches, and peripheral joint osteoarthritis (Lee & Ernst 2011)
- Osteoarthritis – The Osteoarthritis Research Society International (Zhang et al. 2008)
- Chronic low back pain (Huffman 2007, Manheimer et al. 2005)
- The combination of acupuncture and conventional therapy was better than conventional therapy alone (Manheimer et al. 2005).

If you suffer from cervical insufficiency, placenta previa (after 26 weeks of pregnancy), pre-eclampsia or severe anaemia you must not exercise. If you have a […]
